Leicester City's fairytale Champions League journey has come to end when they were held to a 1-1 draw by Atletico Madrid, who reached the semi-finals for the third time in four seasons with a 2-1 aggregate win.

A first-half goal proved enough to ease the Spanish side through to the last four despite Leicester's spirited revival in the second half when Jamie Vardy equalised.

Cristiano Ronaldo scored a hat-trick to raise his Champions League record tally to 100 goals as holders Real Madrid beat Bayern Munich 4-2 in extra-time to advance to the semi finals.

Ronaldo scored five goals in the quarter-final tie as Real prevailed 6-3 on aggregate, having won the first game in Munich 2-1.

Real are through to the semis for a seventh straight time and remain on course towards becoming the first team to defend the title in the competition in its current format.

The other quarter-final return legs between Monaco and Borussia Dortmund (3-2) and Barcelona and Juventus are on Thursday.

The semi final draw will be made on Saturday.
