Hawkins, a former Australian shooter, has stepped down after two and a half seasons with the club.

During Hawkins' tenure, the Tactix recorded just three wins from 31 attempts.

The Tactix have lost all five of their matches so far this season, including the biggest thrashing in the competition's history - their 90-41 loss to the Southern Steel.

Assistant coach Marianne Delaney-Hoshek will take over as head coach for the remainder of the season.

Hawkins said the decision was hers alone and had to be made.

"Moving forward as a professional coach, there is a time when you have to step aside in the interest of the team."

"I have enjoyed my time with the Silvermoon Tactix and wish them all the best for the rest of the season."

Hawkins plans on returning to Australia with her family.

The Tactix next game is this Sunday in Invercargill against the Northern Stars.
