A broken rudder forced Team New Zealand to take an unscheduled break from Americas Cup practice in Bermuda this morning.

The catamaran's port rudder was shredded during the team's practice session.

Team New Zealand were able to lift the yacht out of the water to replace the rudder and carried on practicing for three hours.

Skipper Glenn Ashby and his crew have been working around the clock to adjust to conditions in the Carribean after being the last team to arrive in Bermuda.

Team New Zealand aren't been the only ones to find trouble in the tropical waters, last week Cup holders Oracle capsized for the second time during one of their practice sessions.

The Americas Cup qualifying regatta, the Louis Vuitton Cup, starts on May 26.
