Ricky Ponting made a controversial first-ball duck as the New Zealand cricket team beat the Australians by 51 runs in the fifth and final one-dayer in Wellington.
Australia had already retained the Chappell-Hadlee Trophy with three wins in the first four matches.
But the Black Caps were determined to play for pride at Wellington's Westpac Stadium and bowled the world champions out for 190 in 46.1 overs chasing 242 to win.
In-form opener Shane Watson top-scored for Australia with 53 but man-of-the-match Tim Southee grabbed a career-best 4-36 and veteran Shane Bond was impressive with his 4-26 for the Kiwis.
The game sprang to life in the seventh over of Australia's innings when pace spearhead Bond dismissed Brad Haddin (17) and Ponting with successive bouncers.
Ponting was given out caught behind by Kiwi umpire Gary Baxter although the ball appeared to miss his gloves before clipping his helmet.
Cameron White was out for six his only failure of the series in which he hit 168 runs at 56.00.
Southee dismissed Adam Voges (5) caught behind according to Pakistan umpire Asad Rauf, although Voges also appeared to miss the ball.
Watson flicked a catch to short mid-wicket at 96-5 but Australia steadied with a 50-run partnership between Mike Hussey (46) and James Hopes (40).
Southee bowled Hussey and two overs later removed Mitchell Johnson (6) who holed out to long-on.
Bond picked up the late wickets of Nathan Hauritz (9) and Clint McKay (2) in consecutive overs as Australia lost 3-4.
Johnson, who was fined after clashing heads with Scott Styris in the opening match, took 2-42 in New Zealand's 241-9
The Blackcaps now take on Australia in the two-Test series which starts in Wellington on Friday.
