Black Ferns win fourth title of the season

The New Zealand women's sevens team have beaten hosts Canada 17-7 in the final of the Langford Sevens.

Tries to Michaela Blyde and Tyla Nathan Wong gave New Zealand a 12-nil lead early in the first half before Canada struck back just before half time.

The Black Ferns' Alena Saili scored the only points in the second half right on full time.

Earlier the Black Ferns sevens beat Russia 24-nil in the quarters and France 28-5 in the semis.

New Zealand have won four out of the five events this season and have a 14 point lead over Canada and Olympic champions Australia heading into the final tournament of the year in France.

Coach Alan Bunting said strong defense led the team in win the series.

"Stoked with the win the biggest thing out of this tournament for us is the team played with heart and we've learnt a lot."

Player of the match Ruby Tui said Canada is a strong team so to nab a win against them has got the team in high spirits.

"We just take it game by game and just try to respect every team we play so lots to look forward to , i'm so proud of the team."
