Another gear failure for Team New Zealand has cost them their unbeaten record at the Louis Vuitton Trophy yachting regatta on the Waitemata Harbour.
Every day Dean Barker's crew has suffered some structural damage and today it was a blown spinnaker which caused some mechanical problems.
That gave the previously winless French team Aleph a big lead which they held onto to score a 38 second win.
The round robin part of the regatta finishes tomorrow.
