The season could be over for newly crowned world shot put champion Tom Walsh

Walsh who won the world title in London on Monday suffered a groin injury in the lead up to the competition and it seems it appears worse than initially thought.

Walsh is due to have an MRI scan to determine the extent of the problem.

"It's pretty bad. I hobble now when I am walking....so we're gonna figure out what it is - if it's bad or I've just inflamed it."

"I didn't want to tell many people about it before I threw because I was going to give it a good shot no matter what and I didn't want that as an excuse as to why I didn't go well, but maybe I should get a groin injury more often," he joked.

Walsh was already planning for a week off before beginning his preparation for the Diamond League final meet in Brussels next month.

However with the Commonwealth Games and the world indoor champs on the horizon Walsh will be careful not to rush back into competition.

He is also looking forward to getting back home in the next couple of months as he's currently having a house built and "I want to do some of the building on it, so I can at least say I did some of it."
