London football club Arsenal are top of the English Premiership for now after a 2-0 home win over West Ham.

The Gunners played more than half the match with 10 men.

Arsenal move onto 67 points with seven matches to play and lead the standings for the first time since January by a point over Manchester United and three above Chelsea.

Both the other title contenders play their weekend matches overnight, United welcoming Liverpool to Old Trafford and Chelsea visiting Blackburn Rovers.

Chelsea also have a game in hand on Arsenal.

In the day's other games, Tottenham Hotspur won 2-1 at Stoke City to keep their Champions League ambitions alive, while Aston Villa slipped up in the battle for fourth, drawing 2-2 at home with midlands rivals Wolverhampton Wanderers.

Hull City, playing their first game under new coach Iain Dowie and battling against the drop, lost 3-2 at Championship-bound bottom club Portsmouth, who scored twice in the last two minutes to seal a rare win.

Everton beat Bolton Wanderers 2-0, Sunderland beat Birmingham City 3-1 and Wigan Athletic beat Burnley 1-0.
