All White striker Chris Wood came on late to score, but it wasn't enough as Burnley was beaten by his former club Leeds United in the third round of the English League Cup.

Wood came off the bench after 70 minutes and scored from the penalty spot for his Premiership side.

He also scored in the penalty shootout but Leeds, who are in a division lower, went through 5-3.

"Woody came on and gets another goal, which is a good habit, so there were some pleasing things," said manager Sean Dyche.

Meanwhile Leicester City beat Liverpool 2-0 to move into the fourth round.

Elsewhere, Roy Hodgson got his first win as Crystal Palace boss beating Huddersfield 1-0 at home and Championship side Bristol City shocked Premier League Stoke 2-0.

It took Tottenham 65 minutes to break down a resolute Barnsley 1-0 at Wembley.

Joshua King scored in extra time to send Bournemouth through 1-0 over Brighton, as Middlesbrough knocked out fellow Championship side Aston Villa 2-0 and Swansea won 2-0 at Reading.
