Dunham claimed the silver medal after coming back from fifth with 500m remaining.

Ireland's Paul O'Donovan won the race three seconds ahead of Dunham.

"I was coming from behind and in the last 500m I knew I was going to pass out anyways so I just went for it all the way to the bubble line," Dunham said.

Meanwhile the New Zealand women's and men's double sculls, the women's lighweight double and men's single sculler Robbie Manson are all through to the A finals.

The men's quad just missed out on qualifying for the A final, finishing fourth in their semi and will instead race in the B final.
