The veteran Black Caps batsman Ross Taylor has been given the chance to resurrect his T20 career with a late callup for the three match series against India.

Taylor, 33, who was part of the one day side which lost the third and final one dayer in Kanpur this morning and with it the series 2-1, has played 193 one dayers and 81 tests for New Zealand but hasn't appeared in a T20 game for the Black Caps since March last year.

The injury enforced withdrawal of Canterbury leg spinner Todd Astle from the squad opened the way for Taylor's returns.

Black Caps coach Mike Hesson said it made sense to bring Taylor back into the T20 squad.

"[It means] the least amount of disruptions and Ross is in good form as well, so it gives us another option through the middle.

"We've certainly got a few guys lining up to take those spots at the moment, which is good ... it will be nice to have Ross' experience in the group."

New Zealand play India in the first of three T20 games in Delhi on Thursday morning.
