Ross Taylor's milestone century against the West Indies has helped him climb inside the top ten test cricket rankings for batsmen.

Taylor scored 107 not out for his 17th test century to move level with mentor Martin Crowe and captain Kane Williamson as New Zealand's most prolific test century maker.

Taylor, who averages 48 after 83 tests, has moved up three places to tenth on the list which is led by Australia captain Steve Smith, with Williamson in fifth spot.

Taylor's highest ranking on the batting list was four years ago when he was rated third.

It's the first time he's been back in the top ten since August last year.

Despite England's dismal Ashes form England bowler James Anderson remains at the top of the bowling ranks.

Neil Wagner, who took 14 wickets in the recent series including a career best 7-39, is the best placed of the New Zealand bowlers in seventh spot.

New Zealand remain in fourth place on the team rankings.
