The American left-hander Phil Mickelson has won the Masters golf tournament at Augusta, where Tiger Woods blew his chances with an eratic final round.

Mickelson finished the final round on 16 under par, five under 67 for the day and three shots ahead of second-placed Lee Westwood of England.

It's Mickelson's fourth major title and third Masters title, after victories in 2004 and 2006.

He said afterwards the victory was very emotional.

Wearing a pink ribbon on his cap, he shared a tearful hug with wife Amy behind the 18th green.

She'd been bed-ridden all week, fighting breast cancer.

Mickelson's mother has also been battling the disease.

Anthony Kim was third, a shot behind.

Woods finished in a tie for fourth with South Korea's KJ Choi.

After bogeying three of the first five holes, the world number one rallied with an eagle and two birdeys but wasn't happy with his driving.

Woods said afterwards he would take another break and he's not sure when he'll compete next.
