Liverpool put up for sale, new chairman appointed

The English Premier League football club Liverpool has been put up for sale by its American owners.

Tom Hicks and George Gillett have appointed Barclays Capital to find a buyer for the famous club.

Liverpool, sixth in the league after a disappointing season, also said that British Airways Chief Martin Broughton had been appointed as chairman with immediate effect and will oversee the sale process.
