Teenage New Zealand surfer beats world champ

The young New Zealand surfer Sarah Mason has caused a major upset in beating Australian world champion Stephanie Gilmore, to reach the quarter-finals at the World Women's Tour competition in New Plymouth.

The 15-year-old Mason will now ride against fellow New Zealander Paige Hareb, in the the top eight.

Needing a score of just over six and a half on her final wave Mason, who's competing in her first tour event, scored

7-point-one.
