Chiefs first five out for rest of season

6:13 am on 21 April 2010

The Chiefs worst fears were confirmed last night with the need for their first five Mike Delany to undergo shoulder surgery which will end his Super 14 rugby season.

Delany suffered the injury against the Stormers last Friday, and he'll undergo surgery on Friday and be out for about six months.

And the Chiefs winger Lelia Masaga is also booked in for surgery Friday - on his right knee, which will keep him out of action for 3-6 weeks, effectively ending his season.

The Chiefs team to play the Cheetahs on Friday night will be named early this afternoon.
