Melbourne stripped of NRL premiership titles

6:39 pm on 22 April 2010

The defending National Rugby League champions the Melbourne have been stripped of two NRL premierships and fined two-point-two million dollars, after being found guilty of long term salary cap breaches.

The NRL chief executive David Gallop has announced the Storm won't be allowed to accrue any premiership points this season.

Gallop says the Storm rorted the salary cap over a five year period effectively having sets of books and going to extraordinary lengths to cover their tracks.

This morning several Australian bookmakers suspended betting on who'd finish last in the competition after receiving several $10,000 bets for the Storm to finish wooden spooners.
