6:44 am on 24 April 2010

The New Zealand IndyCar driver Scott Dixon will race in an Australian V8 Supercar on the Gold Coast in October.

Dixon, a two-time IndyCar series champion, will race for the Jack Daniel's team in the Gold Coast 600 on the streets of Surfers Paradise.

For the first time the event is an endurance race which requires two drivers.

Todd and Rick Kelly will lead the team.

The Gold Coast event was staged as an IndyCar/Champ Car event from 1991 to 2008.

All 18 drivers, representing 12 different nationalities, will have to feature in both 300km races at the new-look Gold Coast event, which has been created to replace last year's controversial SuperGP race.

Also named among 18 international drivers for the evnt are former Formula One champion Jacques Villeneuve and fellow Indycar drivers Ryan Briscoe and Will Power.

Another New Zealand driver, Jonny Reid, has missed out on a drive in the event.
