The former All Blacks flanker Daniel Braid is returning after signing with the New Zealand Rugby Union and Auckland from July until the end of 2012.

Braid will finish his second Super 14 season with the Queensland Reds, then return to play in the provincial championship.

He'll be eligible for New Zealand again once he has played for Auckland.

Ater a strong season for the Reds Braid will be a welcome addition to the All Black selectors' list of back up options for Richie McCaw.

He says trying to secure a place in the World Cup squad has been a strong motivator in his decision.

However Braid says he's enjoyed playing for the Reds and hopes to leave on a high note as part of a team that's improved enormously this season.
