Super 14 chiefs have cautioned referees boss Lyndon Bray for taking aim at Matt Giteau before the Brumbies five-eighth was fined at Wednesday night's SANZAR judicial hearing.
Giteau pleaded guilty to breaching the game's code of conduct for criticising referee Steve Walsh following his controversial performance in New South Wale's 19-12 win over the Brumbies last weekend.
The Wallabies back said it would be pointless for the Brumbies to turn up against Queensland on Saturday night if Walsh remained in control.
Walsh was ultimately relieved of his duties but in return Bray, before the hearing, said in an interview that it would be "nice" if Giteau was suspended and said a hammer needed to be brought down on him.
The Brumbies referred the matter to the ARU who in turn reported Bray's remarks to SANZAR secretariat, which is under the control of the NZRU.
SANZAR cautioned Bray against making further comments prior to judiciary hearings but found he committed no breach of the code.
