Stars remain winless as Tactix snatch last gasp win

6:26 am on 24 May 2018

The Mainland Tactix have denied the Northern Stars their first win of the ANZ netball premiership with a last gasp 49-48 win in Christchurch.

The home side only took the lead with 10 seconds left on the clock to make it three wins from four games while the Stars have lost all three of their matches.

The Tactix went into the match having lost captain and defender Jess McLeenan for the rest of the season due a knee ligament injury.

The Stars held the upper hand for most of the match leading two at the end of the first quarter and by four at halftime - having been ahead by nine at one stage.

That was narrowed to two at the end of the third quarter with the visitors up 38-36.

All the drama came in the closing couple of minutes as the Tactix grabbed turnover opportunities and converted them into points as the Stars failed to retain their earlier composure and faltered in the closing stages.

The result means the Tactix sit in third place in the competition while the Stars are fifth just ahead of the Waikato-Bay of Plenty Magic the only other winless team.

The Pulse sit at the top of the leaderboard with four wins from four games.
