The South African golfer Tim Clark has jumped 20 places up the world rankings to number 20 following his breakthrough victory yesterday at the Players Championship in Florida.

The 34-year-old Clarke beat the game's strongest field, coming from a record seven strokes back after two rounds, to edge out Robert Allenby and Lee Westwood for the prestigious title - Clark's first on the PGA tour.

Despite withdrawing from the tournament with an injury on the final day Tiger Woods remains world number one ahead of Phil Mickelson, who tied for 17th at Sawgrass.
