Storm's independent directors take NRL to court

7:01 pm on 14 May 2010

The four independent directors of the Melbourne Storm club are taking the National Rugby League to the Supreme Court of Victoria.

One of the directors, chairman Rob Moodie, claims the NRL's process in applying the club's heavy salary cap breach penalties was "not fair, impartial or transparent".

But the Storm's owners, News Limited, won't rule out sacking the directors.

The company's Corporate Affairs Director Greg Baxter says they should get back to work, with more important issues such as fielding a team under the salary cap next season.

Last month the Melbourne Storm's rort of more than $2 million was uncovered and among a range of penalties were the stripping of two Premierships.

All the Storm's Premiership points for this season were also wiped.
