The Southern Steel have kept their trans-tasman netball play-off hopes alive with an upset 52-47 victory over the Waikato Bay of Plenty Magic in Invercargil.

The New South Wales Swifts remain unbeaten at the top of the standings after their 61-52 win over the West Coast Fever in Perth while the Magic remain second and the Steel are up to fourth.

The Steel shooters produced one of their most complete performances of the season with Daneka Wipiiti and Megan Dehn both shooting over 90 percent as they recorded just their second ever win over the Magic.

They led by four after the first quarter and at half time and were up by two heading into the last quarter and led by Leana de Bruin defended well to hold on for the win.
