The world championship cycling medallist Wes Gough has broken an arm during the New Zealand team's latest race in Belgium when he and the rest of the BikeNZ team were caught in a mass pile-up.

It's not expected to jeopardise Gough's Commonwealth Games preparations but the knee injury Tom Scully suffered when he crashed in Ireland last week is more serious than first thought.

Scully's torn ligaments in his right knee and will return to New Zealand after surgery in Galway.

BikeNZ's High Performance Director, Mark Elliott, says while it's too early to say Scully won't be going to New Delhi the promising young Southland rider's chances don't look good.
