Julian Dean will be the only New Zealand cyclist competing in next month's Tour de France after he was confirmed in the Garmin-Transitions team.

Americans Christian Vande Velde and Tyler Farrar are the leaders of the US team.

Vande Velde, who finished fourth in 2009 and eighth overall last year will be backed in the general classification by a strong group of Grand Tour veterans, while Farrar will have a powerful lead-out train for the sprint stages including Dean.

It will be Dean's sixth tour.

Greg Henderson and Hayden Roulston missed out on selection for their respective teams for the Tour, which starts in Rotterdam next weekend.
