French Federation president resigns

The French Football Federations's president Jean-Pierre Escalettes says he's resigning on Friday after France's World Cup fiasco.

France left South Africa with one point and one goal from the group stage after the team boycotted a training session in support of striker Nicolas Anelka, who was sent home for insulting coach Raymond Domenech.

Escalettes had kept silent since saying after the loss to South Africa that he would not quit because it was not in his nature to abandon a sinking ship.

But now he says he accepts his share of responsibilty and consider it's his duty to resign.

He's faced criticism since his decision to leave Domenech in charge after France's Euro 2008 flop.
