The former chairman of New Zealand Cricket Sir John Anderson may yet become president of the sport's international body, with an Australian newspaper reporting that former Australian prime minister John Howard's failed to have his nomination endorsed.
The ICC executive board, which is meeting in Singapore, was expected to announce its official decision tomorrow but the Australian newspaper reports Howard's candidacy for the vice-presidency has been rejected by the majority of Test-playing countries.
The newspaper says Howard's only support has come from New Zealand, Australia, and England.
The ICC is now set to be left without a vice-president, who serves a two-year term before becoming president.
Sir John Anderson, the man Howard beat to become the Australasian candidate, could replace him but New Zealand Cricket CEO Justin Vaughan, who's in Singapore, says no formal decision on Howard's nomination has yet been made.
He says he can't speculate on what might happen if John Howard's nomination is rejected.
