Wellington Saints have won the National Basketball League title after an 82-79 win over Waikato in the third and deciding match of the finals series in the capital.
Waikato, the 2-time defending champions led by 3 at half time, before the homeside took the lead and were cruising towards the title, up by 10 with 30 seconds to play, before a couple of Piston 3-pointers put the game on edge.
However the Saints import Eric Devendorf held his nerve on the free-throw line to secure the win.
It is Saints 6th title, but their first since 2003, while it is the 10th for their rookie coach Pero Cameron, who won 9 as a player with Waikato and Auckland.
