The Waikato-Bay of Plenty Magic, sparked by a brilliant shooting performance by Irene van Dyk, sent the minor premiers NSW Swifts tumbling out of the trans-Tasman netball finals in straight games.
van Dyk's 43 goals from 44 attempts in Newcastle helped the Magic to a 54-49 victory in the preliminary final, setting up a grand final showdown at the Adelaide Entertainment Centre next Sunday against the Thunderbirds, who lost to the Magic 53-44 in their last round clash in Rotorua two weeks ago.
It was the first finals win in four attempts by a New Zealand team in Australia, and just the second Kiwi victory in 41 matches across the Tasman.
