Dutch keen to cast off best losers tag

6:35 am on 7 July 2010

The Netherlands are keen to cast off their losers tag going over the next few days as one of four teams left in the running at the World Cup finals.

Regarded as the best team never to have won the Jules Rimet Trophy, the Netherlands meet Uruguay in this morning's first semi-final in Cape Town having run up a perfect record during their eight qualifying games and five games at the finals.

They're spearheaded by a deadly midfield trio of Arjen Robben, Wesley Sneijder and Dirk Kuyt.

But FIFA officials have been hunting for a hotel for the modest Dutch who booked accommodation in South Africa only until yesterday.

Uruguay, who are in their first semi-final for 40 years, are harking back to glory days when they won the trophy in 1930 and 1950.
