The 18-year-old took the match 6-4 6-4 and will now meet the sixth seed Venus Williams in the quarter-finals.

"Honestly, I can't believe it right now. I've dreamed of playing on this stage against top players and now I'm here," Andreescu said.

Williams was too strong for previous tournament winner Lauren Davis, beating her 6-4 6-3.

Earlier, American Amanda Anisimova upset the fifth seed Barbora Strycova of the Czech Republic 6-3 6-3.

Anisimova, the youngest player inside the women's top 100, will meet Viktoria Kuzmova in the quarter-finals.

Kuzmova of Slovakia beat Sofia Kenin from the USA in three sets.
