Slater named man of the State of Origin series

In a team full of champions, Billy Slater's two superhuman efforts in Queensland's 23-18 win in Origin three in Sydney elevated him above the rest and secured him the prestigious honour of man of the State of Origin series.

Darren Lockyer, Greg Inglis, Sam Thaiday, Johnathan Thurston or Nate Myles wouldn't have looked out of place with the medal around their necks, but Slater's match-winning efforts saw him crowned with the gong named after the King, Wally Lewis.

In the 65th minute, NSW tearaway Anthony Watmough charged for the line, destined to score - but a miraculous tackle by Slater saw him held up over the line.

Slater scored later in the game to turn the momentum the Maroons way.

The Melbourne fullback says winning a prestigious award like player of the series is something that in 20 years' time he'll look back on with great pride.
