Dean wants stage win

It's his best ever result in his sixth Tour de France and New Zealand's only rider on the famous cycle race is determined to go one better.

Julian Dean was just pipped for stage honours on Thursday by the Italian veteran Alessandro Petacchi, but Dean's second place is even more remarkable given his heavy crash two days earlier that briefly put him in hospital.

Dean was given the green light to go for the sprint win because his Garmin team's top sprinter, Tyler Farrar, is recovering from a broken wrist.
