Oracle octopus predicts Germany to place third

An octopus in a German aquarium, who's shot to international fame after correctly predicting every football World Cup game involving his country of residence, is tipping Germany to finish the tournament in third place.

Paul, as he's known, ate the snack from the box with the German flag instead of the one boasting Uruguay's national colours, therefore predicting Germany to win tomorrow's third place play-off.

After a rest, Paul predicited Spain to beat the Netherlands in the final, which will be played on Monday morning.

Both predictions were broadcast live on national German television.

Some German football fans haven't been happy with Paul's accuracy however, with his aquarium in Oberhausen receiving emails threatening to turn the octopus into sushi.

The threats come after he correctly predicted Germany's semi-final defeat to Spain.
