Massive Warriors casualty ward this year as a blessing in disguise

They've had a horror run this year with injuries, yet the Warriors sit inside the playoff places in eighth on the National Rugby League ladder - and they're just two points off third.

Coach Ivan Cleary's looking at their massive casualty ward this year as a blessing in disguise, with rookies like James Maloney and Isaac John stepping up to fill in for the many absentees.

With the likes of Brent Tate, Sam Rapira and Brett Seymour due back soon to bolster the ranks in the run-in to the playoffs, Cleary says he's more than happy with the new depth being created.

He says when the more experienced players do return, there'll be real competition for the starting spots.
