English netballers may revolt over trans-tasman ban

The Adelaide Thunderbirds import Geva Mentor says England's best netballers could revolt over their ban from next year's trans-Tasman championships.

The 26-year-old English defender says she'll fight an edict from her national coach, Sue Hawkins, disallowing players from the 2011 championships.

Hawkins wants her England squad at her disposal in the lead-up to the world titles in Singapore next July.

The trans-Tasman competition is scheduled to lead into the worlds.

Mentor, judged best player in the T-Birds' 10-goal grand final triumph over Waikato Bay of Plenty Magic last night, says the ruling is wrong.

Mentor says a good performance at the Delhi Commonwealth Games in October could improve the English players' claims.

NSW Swifts defender Sonia Mkoloma and Magic midcourter Jade Clarke could also be lost to next year's trans-Tasman competition by the ruling.
