Woods avoids fans at British Open

The world golf number one Tiger Woods commitment to bond with his fans seem to be on the wane.

When he returned from golfing exile earlier this year, following revelations of a string of apparent extra marital affairs, Woods promised to treat the fans with respect.

But he didn't want anything to do with supporters when he completed his latest practice round for this week's British Open.

The smiling face that accompanied each practice shot evaporated when he saw the gauntlet of fans desperate for his autograph at the end of the round.

However he slunk off the course at the 17th hole before heading for the sanctity of the practice range and then driving off in a car with tinted windows.

The fans' faith in golfers was quickly restored just a few minutes later however when Alvaro Quiros, a picture of joy after Spain's World Cup triumph, unfurled his country's flag and performed impromptu tricks with a football and his club.
