Cole's Downhill World Champs in doubt with broken wrist

The New Zealand mountain biker, Cameron Cole, has put his Wolrd Championship hopes in doubt after breaking his wrist at the Champéry World Cup in Switzerland.

A small crash in muddy conditions has left the 22-year-old with a broken scaphoid in his right hand, derailing his UCI World Cup downhill campaign for 2010.

Cole has had three top-10 finishes and two podiums in the first three Downhill World Cups of the year and, despite finishing 35th at Champéry, he still sits sixth in the overall standings.

But Cole says there's a chance he could be back in time for the World Champs in Quebec at the end of August.

He says if he gets his wrist operated on next week, the healing period could be as little as four weeks, leaving him ready to compete in Quebec.
