London Olympics ahead of schedule?

The London Olympics organisers are so far ahead of schedule that Britain should call a snap Olympics in 2011 to take the world by surprise and increase its medals tally, the London mayor Boris Johnson joked on Wednesday.

With two years to go before the Games are due to open in the British capital, the mayor boasted that London 2012 organisers would be ready to host the games a year ahead of schedule if asked.

The former Olympic runner Sebastian Coe, who heads the organising committee, confirmed that the stadium's were nearly complete, and would be finished next year.
