Powell pulls out of Stockholm meeting

12:15 pm on 6 August 2010

The much anticipated showdown of the three best sprinters in the world has lost some of its glamour with Jamaican Asafa Powell forced out of the Stockholm Diamond League meeting through injury.

World record holder and Olympic champion Usain Bolt and American rival Tyson Gay will clash for only the third time in the 100 metres tomorrow morning.

Powell, the last man to beat Bolt on this track two years ago, was forced to withdraw due to a groin injury.

Bolt has ruled out lowering his world record at the Diamond League meeting as he is keen not to risk further damage to the Achilles tendon which troubled him earlier this season.
