Warriors still right in hunt for playoffs

It was a good weekend for the Warriors in Sydney as they got their bid for the NRL playoffs back on track with a 37-10 win over second-to-bottom Cronulla.

The Warriors are at home this weekend to the Newcastle Knights.

With four games remaining in the regular season, St George Illawarra lead with 32 points, Penrith, the Sydney Roosters, Gold Coast and West Togers have 28 points, and the Warriors are one of three teams on 26 points. So there are just two points between the second and eighth-placed teams.

The Warriors appeared to avoid injury and judicial problems at the weekend.

After suffering back-to-back losses, the Warriors turned things around with a strong defensive effort and a spectacular attacking display that included a hat-trick of tries to the rookie winger Bill Tupou impressed with - his first in the top grade.

Brent Tate, James Maloney, Joel Moon and Manu Vatuvei also crossed the line.

With just four competition points separating the eight-placed Warriors from ladder leaders St George Illawarra, the seven-try haul has helped the New Zealand side's finals hopes.

Points differential is likely to play a crucial role in determining the final finishing order.

Manly also reignited their finals ambitions on Saturday, with a dominant 26-6 win over the Melbourne Storm at home, while the injury-ravaged South Sydney Rabbitohs are sitting just outside the top eight after a 34-30 golden point extra time win over the visiting Wests Tigers.

On Sunday the Dragons showed their minor premiership credentials with a 19-12 win over the Roosters at the Sydney Cricket Ground and the Newcastle Knights ended the Bulldogs' playoff hopes with a 30-6 rout at EnergyAustralia Stadium.
