Liverpool slip up and share points with Arsenal

7:33 am on 16 August 2010

A late mistake by Liverpool goalkeeper Pepe Reina allowed Arsenal to salvage a 1-all draw at Anfield in their opening match of the English Premier League football season.

Both sides finished with 10 men after having players sent off.

Liverpool went ahead just after halftime through French striker David Ngog and looked set to grab the points until just before the end of regulation time when Reina spilled a rebound into his own net.

In his first League match in charge, the Liverpool boss Roy Hodgson wouldn't blame his keeper for missing out on the 3 points.

Neither team matched the devastating form of champions Chelsea who began their title defence with a 6-nil win over promoted West Bromwich Albion yesterday.

Tomorrow morning Manchester United host Newcastle.
