Olympic boss says selection criteria needs work

The New Zealand Olympic Committee Secretary General Barry Maister says a closer look needs to be taken at the selection criteria of athletes for future Games.

With the New Zealand Olympic team due to head home tomorrow, Maister says the Beijing Games have shown that athletes with a sustained international programme have fared better than those who qualified in a one-off event.

Maister admits that financially some sports aren't able to sustain an international programme and dialogue needs to be had with the funding agency SPARC to plan properly for the future.
