The United States tennis team has kept its Davis Cup hopes alive after a win in the doubles against Spain in Madrid.
The victory repeats the United States doubles comeback from 2-0 behind in Seville four years ago, though U.S. captain Patrick McEnroe will hope the similarities end there since Spain won the next rubber to win their second Davis Cup.
Tomorrow world number eight Andy Roddick must first beat claycourt master and world number one Rafael Nadal and forget the controversy of the opening singles five-set loss to David Ferrer when he complained that crowd noise at a crucial point swung the match.
In the other tie, world number five David Ferrer will play Davis Cup newcomer Sam Querrey who took the opening set against Nadal in the opening singles before falling in four.
Meanwhile Russia has also resurrected its Davis Cup semi-final against Argentina with a win in the doubles.
Argentina still lead the tie 2-1 with the two reverse singles still to play.
