Further discussions about Super 14 future

The SANZAR nations are to hold further discussions on outstanding issues as a result of a meeting of the organisation's board in Sydney yesterday.

The managing directors of South Africa, New Zealand and Australia have been mandated to continue negotiations regarding the use of the Experimental Law Variations (ELVs) and the format for the Super 14 competition.

The acting managing director of SANZAR, Andy Marinos says it was a very productive meeting as they all have a better understanding of each others' positions.

He says they've been able to thoroughly interrogate the various options and it was decided that they share those opinions with their national stakeholders before resuming discussions.

The board discussed the option of adopting the global ELVs in SANZAR competitions next season or continuing to use the hybrid version as applied in 2008.

The board also examined various options for the qualification process for an expanded play-off series for the 2009 Super 14 competition.
