Kiwis try to move on quickly from Australia loss

The Kiwis are quickly trying to move their focus onto Papua New Guinea in the wake of their disappointing 30-6 loss to Australia in their opening rugby league world cup match in Sydney.

Captain Nathan Cayless says they simply shot themselves in the footand didn't live up to their own expectations.

The result does nothing to suggest that the tournament's anything other than a one-horse race, with Australia the only side to have held the title since the mid-seventies.

Kiwis coach Stephen Kearney says his side simply turned over too much possession and gave away too many penalties.

The Kiwis play Papua New Guinea on the the Gold Coast on Saturday night, with the Kumuls' 10-point opening loss to England showing they'll be no easy beats.
