John Daly welcomed to Coolum

Organisers have welcomed the decision of wayward American golfer John Daly to return to the scene of his famous meltdown to play in next month's Australian PGA Championship.

Daly is said to want to "make amends" and has added the PGA in Queensland to his itinerary after securing an invitation for next week's Australian Masters at Huntingdale.

Playing a week after the death of his mother in 2002, the two-time major winner lost the plot completely after a second round 78 at the Australian PGA Championship, throwing his club and ball in the Hyatt Regency course lake and abusing an official.

He was then disqualified after refusing to sign his scorecard.
