Roy Keane has quit as the manager of English Premier League football side Sunderland.
The former Manchester United midfielder Keane, who took over in August 2006, steered Sunderland back into the top flight in his first season in charge and consolidated their place last season.
But this season has been disappointing with last weekend's 4-1 home defeat by Bolton Wanderers leaving Sunderland languishing in the relegation zone.
