Victoria puts Chennai's semi-final hopes in doubt

10:49 am on 19 September 2010

The Victoria Bushrangers cricket team have kept their Champions League Twenty20 semi-final chances alive, beating the Chennai Super Kings in a Super Over in Port Elizabeth.

The Super Kings had Victoria chasing 163 for the win, but the Australia side only managed 162 off their 20 overs, sending the match into a Super Over.

The Chennai captain, Mahendra Singh Dhoni, took a gamble and brought on the off-spinner Ravichandra Ashwin.

But after batsman Aaron Finch took a single off Ashwin's first ball, the Victoria captain, David Hussey, smashed 22 off the next five balls, including three sixes.

The Indian side could only manage 13 off medium-pacer Clint McKay.

If Chennai had won, they would've ensured a semi-final spot, along with South African's Eastern Cape Warriors.

But Victoria's win means three teams could finish Group A with three wins, and if that happens, the net run rate will decide the group.
